In the Savannah Region, young people collectively saved GHC 75,051 equivalent USD 6,806.3, a feat that symbolizes #youth #resilience. It marks a powerful shift in mindset, where youth once constrained by limited #financial access are now driving their own #economic #transformation.
This wave of financial empowerment is spreading across 3 Northern regions under the Empowerment for Life (E4L) program. Across 10 districts youth groups are pooling resources, reinvesting in small ventures, and building confidence in their financial futures.
Just as Savannah region, in the North-East Region, where women’s participation is particularly high, youth pooled GHC 58,000 equivalent USD 5,259.96 to power start-ups and small enterprises. Travelling down to Northern Region, seven youth groups across four districts accumulated GHC 14,136 equivalent USD 1,281, channelling funds into businesses such as food processing, retail, and mobile money services.
These savings are not sitting idle, they are fuelling dreams. Young #entrepreneurs are starting and expanding #businesses, creating #employment, and fostering a culture of self-reliance through #savings.
For YEFL-Ghana, these achievements validate the strength of our entrepreneurship and financial empowerment approach. The integration of the #VSLA model within the #E4L program ensures that skills training is matched with practical financial systems that sustain progress. YEFL’s model emphasizes that empowerment isn’t only about knowledge, it’s about creating the mechanisms that keep businesses alive long after the training ends.
By nurturing saving habits and reinvestment, YEFL is enabling young people to transition from survival to stability, and from stability to sustainable growth.
Saving an amount of GHC 147,187.00 equivalent USD 13,348.2 within one year, indicates a reshaping of the economic landscape of Northern Ghana. It’s about young women and men reclaiming control of their finances, proving that transformation can begin with something as simple and as powerful as saving together. As youth savings continue to grow, so does their confidence, their collaboration, and their capacity to lead change in their communities.
YEFL’s approach continues to demonstrate one enduring truth: young people thrive with the right support.
