Improving Education Standard- Chenoweeyat Primary School for Change.

A conducive classroom, well-furnished and with adequate infrastructure, is essential for quality education and a bright future for every child. Recognizing the challenges faced by children at Chenoweeyat Primary School in Zeing, a community in the Nantong District, the Youth Parliament of Nantong acted.

The school's classrooms were in a deplorable state, making them unsuitable for pupils. This issue, among others, prompted a parliamentary sititing with parents, the administration, the assembly, and community members to discuss potential solutions. The sitting led to an immediate Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting to begin implementing some of the recommendations. During this PTA meeting, it was decided that parents would contribute funds to repair the damaged classroom floors and ceilings. Additionally, alumni of the school were encouraged to donate towards renovating the school.

Beyond the classroom conditions, the school also faced a shortage of desks for students and teachers. The principal, with support from the Youth Parliament, wrote to the district assembly requesting desks. The Youth Parliament included this request in their communique to stakeholders after the meeting. This effort yielded positive results, as the school received 10 sets of dual desks. While this number is not sufficient, it brings hope to the students.

2 weeks after the meeting, about 58% of parents and alumni had fully paid their contributions towards the school's renovation.

"What we have now is enough to start working on the classrooms during vacation," the principal indicated.

With the money contributed, bags of cement were procured to commence fixing of the cracked floors. The school with the support of the youth and community members also put up a latrine for the pupils.

The Youth Parliament continues to follow up on the district assembly to address the remaining issues whiles supporting to mobilize more funds and resources for the renovation.
